Affiliate Marketing Programs for Beginners

When you first start out you need to find some affiliate marketing programs for beginners. There are pros and cons to every network so you need to think about what is best for your niche and your business.

Some networks have a broad audience, like the Amazon affiliate program, which makes it easier to promote and one of the reasons many beginners start with it. However, they pay relatively small commissions. Plus it takes a couple of months before you see any money!

Networks or companies that aren’t as widely known may be a harder sell, but they generally pay higher commissions to make up for that.

What to Look for in a Network

Many companies have been around for a long time and have built a reputation so you know it’s a pretty safe bet to go with that network which makes them great affiliate marketing programs for beginners. For new or lesser known companies, it’s a good idea to consider if the network will meet your needs before deciding to spend your precious time promoting their offers. Here are some things to consider:

Is there a good selection of offers to promote?

If you are looking to build a good reputation within a network, then it is better to go with bigger networks as there will be more companies available with products you can promote.

However, that doesn’t mean you should necessarily totally avoid smaller networks. If they have products that are especially good for your niche and meet other criteria, then it could be worthwhile to add them to your network list.

What are the payout terms?

If you are in a hurry for your money, instant payout is nice. However, there are some downsides to this. Some payment processing companies like PayPal can get picky if there are too many chargebacks (when someone refunds a product). They will shut down your account completely if too many occur.

For that reason it is sometimes better to be patient and wait for payment. Most networks have an option for delayed payments that takes this problem of refunds into account.

Check the minimum payout.

This can be tricky so be careful. If the network will only pay out for $500 and your account sets there with $499 … you won’t get paid. Some will even start deducting fees from the money you’ve made if you don’t reach payout in a certain amount of time. So be aware!

Networks that offer the option of a lower threshold for payouts means you’ll be able to reach the goal more quickly and get your money faster. At the very least, feel confident that you can make enough money to get regular payouts from that network.

How long do the cookies last?

This is not always tied to the network, but rather to individual companies within the network. Obviously, the longer the cookie lasts the better.

This is another downside with Amazon. A regular affiliate link only lasts 24 hours with their network. So if the customer doesn’t buy right away, it’s likely you won’t get the commission. On the other hand, if they DO buy, they often buy more than one thing and you get a commission on all those things, not just the one they clicked on at your website.

Are reputable brands and companies using the network?

If you’ve never heard of any of the companies in the network, you might want to move on to a different one. Seeing branded names and companies you are familiar with is a good sign. Low quality products and sales pages means fewer sales for you, and not a good way to build your reputation. You want your customers to be happy with products they buy through your link!

How good is the support?

It’s also a good idea to check their support. If you put in a support question or ticket and they don’t answer for days, that’s not an encouraging sign! If the network is too cheap to maintain good support, it begs the question of where else they are cutting corners!

Choose Your Network

Instead of trying out a whole bunch of different networks right off the bat, there are some advantages to choosing one network and really learning how to use it.

Focusing on one network also allows you to build up your reputation on that network, and can improve your chances of getting accepted into various company’s affiliate programs.

Once you get the hang of one network, you can add others until you have all the best ones that work for your niche.

Internet Marketing Niche Networks

If you are interested in the Internet Marketing niche and want the option of instant payments, there are two main networks to consider:

It’s free to open an affiliate account with either one of them. Please note that just because you have an account with them to buy internet marketing products for yourself doesn’t mean you have an affiliate account! You need one specifically for being an affiliate on that network.

Also, if you are new you can expect payments to be delayed for 30 – 60 days until you start making more consistent sales. Or you can choose settings that delay payments to avoid the problems of payment processors closing your account due to too many refunds.

The other big network for internet marketers is

It does not have an option for instant payment.

While all three of these networks are predominantly for digital products and software, Clickbank not only has a few more tangible products, but also carries items not in the internet marketing field.

Affiliate Networks Outside of the Internet Marketing Niche

It doesn’t matter what niche you choose, or what type of product you wish to promote, chances are there is an affiliate program for it! Digital products AND tangible products both have affiliate programs. You can find health related products, diet products, software, gaming, crypto, golf, dog products, music, and on and on.

Granted some types of products have more choices, but there is usually something available somewhere!

Below is a list of the most reputable affiliate companies with tens of thousands of offers among them for you to look through:

Sometimes you find a product that would be perfect for your website, but don’t see it on any of the big networks. In that case, it’s a good possibility they have their own in-house affiliate program. To find out what kind of affiliate program is available, do a search for the product + affiliate program.

For example, if pink teepees is your perfect product, try typing this in the search engine box:

pink teepees affiliate program

If they’ve got one, it should come up relatively near the top of the search results.

When choosing affiliate marketing programs for beginners, the above criteria should help you decide on which network is the best for you. Some have a steeper learning curve than others to really have a firm grasp on all the ins and outs of the network, but it’s relatively easy to get started with most all of them and learn as you go!

So pick a network and get started!
